Springfield’s Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport Celebrates 75 Years

Springfield Airport commemorated its 75th Anniversary Wednesday by looking forward, with US Sen. Dick Durbin among those speaking about its future.

At its core, Mark Hanna believes in making Springfield an exceptional gateway. That involves extensive upgrades like updating the passenger terminal and smaller steps like prepping runways for electric-powered aircraft.

What to Expect

Visit friends in Springfield or experience local culture; the area has something for you. Car rental can be an economical solution that saves both time and money for travelers with heavy baggage; significant brands like Avis, Budget, and Hertz offer car rentals.

Airport officials are celebrating its 75th Anniversary with a year-long celebration that includes events such as an aviation-themed kids camp with Kidzeum at Southwind Park and a public open house held by Lincoln Land Community College in August. Also featured was Senator Dick Durbin’s runway dedication ceremony, with a public open house held during August and a public open house hosted in August by Executive Director Mark Hanna and his staff at Southwind Airport. Their long-term plan involves installing a 2.88-megawatt solar array to power its north-end facilities, upgrading StandardAero facilities at StandardAero for upgrades, and building an aviation training academy partnership between Lincoln Land Community College and Lincoln Land Community College for training academy development purposes.
